10 Quality E-Commerce Websites

In : Design, Website Design, Posted by admin on Apr.04, 2010

A short list of our favourite e-commerce websites from small local business stores to large scale multinational e-commerce solutions.

10. http://www.diy.com/  – B & Q

B & Q’s online store provides a simple ecommerce website design that allows the user to browse a massive range of stock really simply and efficiently. By separating their departments into large key categories such as garden, décor, build and offers, they allow the user to quickly and efficiently find what they are looking for. A simple shopping basket, search facility and neat secure checkout system diy.com provides a good start to our list.

9. http://www.schwans.com/ – Schwans Food

Schwans is a unique site. Although the website layout is quite standard of an e-commerce design they use simple imagery, a steak for meat, sausage rolls for snacks quite nicely. Although this may seem “obvious” it is amazing how much simplifying a website can dramatically increase the return on investment.

8. http://www.jdcycles.co.uk/ – JD Cycles

A simple design again but straight to the point. All the information required for a customer to find items, buy them and then checkout securely are exactly where they should be. Very intuitive and easy to use, although it doesn’t really show much intuitive / innovative aspects it does show how sticking to web standards provides the user with a nice easy to use online store.

7. http://www.fila.eu/ – Fila Sports

Completely different to the first 3 sites but good in it’s own way. The first pages are more of a stunning photography demonstration / marketing campaign but it is easy to find the online store, which is just a click away. Once through to the store, the user gets exactly what they need, images, sizes, prices and buy now buttons keeping it very simple and elegant, definitely valid for our top 10.

6. http://www.avemoor.co.uk/ Avemoor

Using a simple layout that keeps consistency throughout the site gives avemoor a place in our top 10. Informative links, with very quick access to the products the user wishes to find and a quick checkout process.

5. http://www.jjbsports.com/ – JJB Sports

Similarly to B & Q, this large e-commerce site provides the user with chunky buttons that quickly narrow down their searches to help them to browse the vast collection of items on sale easily. With nice fading advertisements and a simple “browse by brand logo” function and a place inside our top 5 e-commerce designs.

4. http://hmv.com/ –

An incredibly busy store, HMV have hit the usability nail on the head with this one. With a simple top level navigation that filters into a more accurate subcategory menu bar allowing you to browse the thousands of products quickly and efficiently with a nice clean “web 2.0” interface, HMV have provided a site that is an inspiration to many e-commerce web design blackpool and developers.

3. http://www.outdoorgear4u.co.uk/ – Outdoor Gear 4 U

One of our personal favourites in the Bespoke Internet office showing how local stores can compete with the big corporations using the power of the web and a good web development team! Using elements of all the above sites to provide the user with a simple, quick and visually appealing website and providing Outdoor Gear 4 U with a big boost into the next level of online retail.

2. http://www.cellarthief.com/ – Cellar Thief

Who said e-commerce sites cannot be pretty? With a site this big and so many products, it is normally difficult to keep them efficient, user friendly and aesthetically pleasing but they have hit the nail on the coffin with this one. Another “web 2.0” design with a wine barrel background and crisp, sharp graphic design throughout a worthy second place for this online wine store.

1. https://www.beatport.com/ – Beatport

Whatever their taste in music any web design preston / developer will tell you how impressive this site actually is. Combining a vast music player with playlists and sound equalisers, with Adobe Flash a massive content management system, tons of user generated content AND an e-commerce site is virtually impossible but the team at Beatport HQ have done a fantastic, solid job on this one. A well deserved winner of our top 10 e-commerces website designs.

A Face Painting Birthday Party

In : Design, Face Painting, Posted by admin on Feb.02, 2010

Professional Face Paint and makeup is an excellent idea for a Birthday Party. Why don’t you try to do it yourself? It can be a very fun activity too! Try out the different types of face paint and improve your innovation and creativity by working on either your own or someone else’s face.
Having a face painting Birthday Party will leave your kids very happy. On doing the painting, it is important to know some of the basic techniques to make it easier. Let the first colour dry before applying the second. If you are in a hurry and applying the other colour before the first one is dry, the paint will be mixed and you will have to wipe all the work and start again. So be patient and think about putting the face paint on thinly to reduce drying time. Do the paint carefully and consider your kids safety. Use the safe colour paints and do not let any paint touch the sensitive part of their face.
The most important thing to do is keep the safety procedure while you work on your kids face. As we know, face has many sensitive organs such as eyes, mouth and nose. You need to be more careful on doing the work. Do not let ant paint go in the eyes, if this does occur check the instructions on the face paint packaging.

Big Differences between Fixed Width and Liquid Layouts

In : Design, Website Design, Posted by admin on Jun.06, 2009

It has been a big debate among web designers if which of the two layouts should be used in web design Preston. Is it the fixed width or the liquid layout? Well, actually the best layout is one that satisfies you as the designer, owner and the user at the same time with your website’s purposes, just remember that quality websites make their layout transparent. However, it is still important for you to know the differences of each approach to web design Leeds

Fixed layouts has the ability to create a standard layout for all monitor resolutions from 800×600, and it allows the web design Manchester process to be easy where you can expect a clean looking website after. However, fixed layouts on a very large resolution are very difficult to read and also it seems to be boring.

On the other hand, liquid layouts is very flexible, wherein you can add additional features most especially above the fold, however a separate CSS file is needed to adjust for an 800×600 resolution.

Digital Revolution Design

In : Design, Posted by admin on May.05, 2009

The digital revolution which is continuously taking place all the time has made it possible to encode any information which makes up a image, sound or a piece of text, so anything can be broken down and taken ‘back to basics’ due to the development of technology, clever use of technology can make it possible to manipulate, break down or connect any electronic images, sounds or texts.

This digital revolution makes grids, colours, formats and typefaces easy to process and then store and then these could be broken down and joined together with other pieces of information. As this evolution of technology continues more devices are produced which supports the electronic screen, which leads to more possibilities for information to be exchanged and re-produced, the sound of something can change e.g. a tone of a voice can be changed or modified so it is mixed with another voice.

Images can be broken down and put back together using parts of other images and photographs can be changed by manipulation if the pixels, the impact of electronic procedures are continuing to change the original outcomes and the culture of visual and verbal communication.
